Qigong for Health & Wellness
Qigong means "energy work". It is an ancient practice of developing, balancing, and controlling internal energy. Qigong is rooted in science and is part of the body of Chinese medicine going back thousands of years. It is a form of meditative movement similar to Tai Chi. Practice and theory have developed from different groups including Physicians (to balance energy and heal the body), religious monks (to develop a heightened spirituality or enlightenment) and Chinese martial artists (to increase vitality and internal power).
This workshop will focus on qigong practice for health and wellness. Participants will learn a very popular qigong set called the Eight Pieces of Brocade. It consists of 8 separate exercises or forms which are repeated several times each. Beginners may do 6 repetitions of each form and then slowly, over time, build up to 12, 18 or 24 repetitions.
Each form focuses on a different energy meridian and works to balance and improve the flow of energy to the related internal organs (kidney, spleen, heart and lungs, etc.).
